More Brunei citizens received houses and land lots under the National Housing Scheme and Landless Indigenous Citizen Housing Scheme, when His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam awarded them house keys during a ceremony held at the Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College in Jalan Muara.
Later, His Majesty toured the Science College and also visited the house of village leaders of Area 3 of the Lambak Kanan housing scheme, Pg Hj Abu Bakar as well as Kg Manggis' Awg Hj Mohd Limbang and Kg Madang's Pg Hj Ali.
The college was established in 1978, and during the time, it was sharing the building with Maktab Melayu Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan.
Due to major repair works required on the building's infrastructure, the college was temporarily moved to Rimba Secondary School.
Eleven years later, in April this year, the college returned to a new and improved campus, built at a cost of $16 million. It consists of administration blocks, an auditorium, a gymnasium, girl's and boy's hostels, science and home science blocks, and boy's craft block.
Over 1,200 students and 137 teachers currently utilise the state-of-the-art facilities.
The elite college produced 86 per cent of students with 5-9 credits in BC-GCE 'O' Level examinations last year compared to 87 per cent in 2003 and 93 per cent in 2002. In BC-GCE 'A' Level examinations, 92.3 per cent of students obtained two 'As' and above last year, compared to 90.2 per cent in 2003 and 89.7 per cent in 2002.
The college also recorded 100 per cent of students who obtained credits in all subjects last year.
The monarch also visited PGGMB Tunas Jaya School in Kg Madang as well as Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB), Pertama Complex, and Standard Chartered Bank at the Hj Ibrahim building in Kg Lambak.
His Majesty paid a visit to the industrial area in Lambak Kanan including establishments such as TCY Motors Sdn Bhd, LKM Motors Sdn Bhd, Offset Printing House Sdn Bhd and Sri Sentosa Sdn Bhd, followed by visits to houses under the housing scheme in Kg Rimba and Kg Tungku (Katok 'A').
