In conjunction with His Majesty's 60th Birthday Celebrations, the Brunei-Japan Friendship Association (BJFA) will organise the BJFA Art Exhibition 2006, featuring an artist from Japan, Hisako Tanefusa, as well as several artists from Brunei Darussalam.
Local artists to take part in the event are Marsidi Omar, Zakaria Omar, Suhaili Omar, Pg Mohd Roslan Pg Hj Bakar, Siew Ong, Hj Fadli Hj Ahmad, Hj Bidin Hj Rashid, Ali Hj Abd Rahim, Hj Mahadi Hj Mat Zain, Siti Zaleha Kaprawi, Rosmah Hj Abd Rashid, Awg Simpul Hj Munap, AK Sarikula Pg Hj Othman, Hj Iskandar Hj Ahmad Bujang, Othman Bakir, Pg Anak Mohd Yusuf, Zainal Hj Mohd Daud and Kassim Ismail.
Ms Hisako Tanefusa and Bruneian artists are specially invited by the association for the upcoming art showcase.
The art exhibition is free and open to the public from July 15 until 29 at the lobby and Level 3 of The Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong.
President of the Brunei-Japan Friendship Association, Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah H A Wahab said in a press release that more than 30 paintings in a series entitled "The world of Maiko" by Ms Hisako Tanefusa will be showcased at the exhibition.
Equally impressive, he said over 30 paintings reflecting local scenes from the participating local artists will also be highlighted at the event.
Paintings on display at the exhibition are mainly in oils, acrylic and pastels.
Ms Hisako Tanefusa is recognised as one of the very few modern artists who specialised in the Maiko of Kyoto. Her works are mainly in oils, pastel, lithograph and clay (bisque dolls). Born in Shizuoka, Japan, Ms Tanefusa graduated from the Musashino Art University with Degrees in Western Painting and Education in Art.
In 1962, she made her debut with "Three Musicians" in the SHIGENKAI Exhibition. Apart from having her works shown in the prestigious NITTEN and SHIGENKAI exhibitions, Ms Tanefusa also held private exhibitions throughout Japan, as well as in Tahiti, Spain and Italy.
The upcoming art exhibition is organised with the support and cooperation from McFarm Sdn Bhd and The Rizqun International Hotel.
