Roads closed on Friday

The Royal Brunei Police announced the closure of several roads in the capital during His Majesty's 59th Birthday celebration on Friday, July 15.

The public is reminded that during the royal parade at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien on Friday, roads will be closed starting from 7 am.

Roads that will be closed are Jalan Tutong starting from the junction at Jalan Tutong/ Jalan Dato Hj Basir, Jalan Sultan, Jalan Stoney, Jalan Elizabeth 2, Jalan Bendahara, Jalan James Pearce, part of Jalan Mc Arthur and Jalan Pemancha.

The public who would like to see the parade can park their cars along Jalan residency and Jalan Sungai Kianggeh.

Several roads will also be closed during the audience and investiture ceremony at Istana Nurul Iman.

Roads to be closed on Friday from 9 am are Jalan Tutong starting from the junction at Jalan Tutong/Jalan Kubah Makam Diraja until the junction at Jalan Tutong/Jalan Telanai. Also closed will be the junction at Jalan Tutong and Jalan Babu Raja.

For the royal banquet at Istana Nurul Iman starting at 7.30pm, roads will be closed starting from 6.30pm.

It will involve JalanTutong starting from the junction at Jalan Tutong/ Jalan Dato Hj Basir until the Jalan Tutong/Jalan Telanai junction. The road along Jalan Babu Raja will also be closed for traffic.

Guests attending all the events and with car passes are advised to park their cars at the allocated area.

Starting from July 15 until July 30, the nightly festive stalls or "Tamu Perayaan" will also begin operating at the car park next to Jalan Bendahara and the car park near the SOAS College at Jalan Sekolah.

The Tamu Perayaan at Jalan Bendahara will see the closure of several roads starting at 6pm.

They are Jalan Stoney, Jalan Bendahara, parts of Jalan Elizabeth 2 and Jalan Pemancha.

For the Tamu Perayaan at Jalan Sekolah, road closure will start at 6pm.

The police reminded that heavy vehicles are prohibited to enter the areas in the capital and Jalan Tutong during the royal parade and also for the events at Istana Nurul Iman.

Those going to the Tamu Perayaan are reminded not to park their cars on the sides of the roads, which can hinder traffic movement and also pedestrians. The police will not hesitate to remove any cars that are parked irresponsibly. - Borneo Bulletin (13th July 2005)
