JGS 2005 Carnival brings KB to life
By Liza Mohd

Youths participation in contributing towards the success of events in conjunction with the monarch's 59th birthday celebrations is vital towards implementing undivided loyalty to the ruler and patriotism to the country.

This was highlighted by Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Dato Awg Haji Adanan bin Pehin Haji Mohd Yusof during the launch of the Juara Gemilang Seni (JGS) 2005 Carnival Saturday afternoon.

The minister graced the event as chief guest, officiating the two-day carnival organised by members of the Belait District Private Sector Stage Performance Committee and held at the Jubilee Recreational Park in Jalan Maulana Kuala Belait.

Also present at the launch was Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Dato Awg Hj Dani, permanent secretaries at the ministry and the Belait District Officer.

In his speech the minister lauded the initiatives by the organising committees, which demonstrates support and continuous commitment towards National Celebration Committee members within the Belait District level to further enliven His Majesty's birthday celebrations.

The minister noted that the arranged carnival activities - such as the bazaar and stalls - would provide work opportunities to the community, particularly youths, to be involved in economic activities and businesses.

The minister later congratulated the Belait District National Committee members on their efforts, and also thanked participants who sacrificed their time to make the get-together ceremony a success.

The opening of the JGS 2005 Carnival was to mark the semi-final competition in the quest for the first KB Idol and Ultimate Band.

The carnival opened with the sounds of bagpipes accompanied by a parade of four-wheel drive vehicles, classical cars, motorbikes and scooters, as well as performances by karate members and De Swan dancers.

Later, Chairman of the Belait District Private Sector Committee Dr Hj Mohd Shah bin Hj Ahmad delivered his welcoming remarks.

Various activities were lined-up for the carnival, which included live band performances, horse riding, beach football and volleyball matches, ghost-house, Belait Photographic Society exhibition, both aerobic and tai chi sessions, as well as various stage performances and contests such as the Little Miss JGS Pageant 2005, Orang Kuala Belait and Live Bands unplugged. - Borneo Bulletin (26th July 2005)
