HER Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, the President of the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam (PPPBD), yesterday attended a meeting at the PPPBD headquarters in Kampong Anggerek Desa.
The meeting, which also saw the attendance of Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, the Vice President of PPPBD, was held for the Amendment of the Constitution dedicated to Article VIII to describe the period of appointment for the Chief Commissioner for PPPBD.
The event commenced with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and continued with a welcoming speech delivered by PPPBD Chief Commissioner Hjh Siti Hafsah binti Hj Abdul Halim, who pointed out that the meeting was crucial to thoroughly address the responsibilities of a chief commissioner, whose duties are fairly substantial and on a full-time basis.
She noted that the constitution should be reviewed, given additional information, and have certain areas corrected, which include additions to the tasks of PPPBD administration (Exco) members.
Following this, HRH Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah delivered a ‘sabda.’
“A constitution that is robust is very important in ensuring that the administration operation and the operation of the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam can be carried out orderly and properly,” HRH said, before going on to add that the constitution also contains elements that lead to the policies and principles of the association.
HRH noted the constitution plays an important role in its efforts to incorporate spiritual and specific learning for girls and young women through grouping and non-formal education, which comes in the form of learning while carrying out activities.
At the same time, HRH added, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) also requires PPPBD to monitor the governance rules of the association so that it can always be improved as a model of good practice.
“Thus, the amendment to the constitution that we will pass this morning is very important for the future of the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam to obtain higher image among Brunei Darussalam and also as a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts,” HRH said.
The meeting continued with a presentation, discussion and passing of the PPPBD Constitutional Amendment, before a Doa Selamat was held to mark the end of the event.
