HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam safely arrived in Pulau Pinang, Malaysia to attend the conferment ceremony of the Honorary Doctorate of Law by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) today.
Present at the Penang International Airport to greet His Majesty were the Raja of Perlis, His Royal Highness Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail; Yang Di-Pertua Negeri of Penang, Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Abdul Rahman bin Haji Abbas; Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng; Chairman of the Board of Governors of Universiti Sains Malaysia, Tan Sri Datuk Dr Zulkefli A Hassan as well as other senior officials from the Government of Malaysia.
Also present to greet His Majesty were Brunei’s Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong and High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Malaysia, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Haji Awang Mohd Taha.
His Majesty consented to walk past a static guard mounted by two officers and 26 personnel from the Second Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, Sungai Ara Camp.
Before His Majesty boarded a motorcade towards the Shangri-La Hotel, where His Majesty will reside, a Doa Selamat was read by Al-Ustaz Dato’ Ellias bin Haji Zakaria, Director of Transformation Office.
Upon arrival at the hotel, His Majesty was greeted by the hotel’s General Manager Elaine Yue as well as the hotel’s staff.
Accompanying His Majesty are the Minister of Finance II at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng.
