THE new Kg Madang/Manggis Mosque currently under construction was one of the sites visited by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office during a working visit to various development projects in the Brunei-Muara District yesterday.
The mosque is a joint venture between the residents of Kg Madang/Manggis area and the Ministry of Religious Affairs for the purpose to give the residents easier access to a nearby mosque.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Haji Mohammad ‘Abdoh bin Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Salam.
In his briefing he said the total cost of the project is approximately $3 million.
His Royal Highness also toured around the premises accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar.
During the tour, the lead architect for the Kg Madang/Manggis Mosque project, Dato Paduka Haji Idris bin Haji Abas, explained about the design of the mosque.
In an interview with Dato Paduka Haji Idris, he said the mosque will be able to accommodate 2,419 congregants.
He added that the mosque is designed in such a way that it displays Brunei’s tradition which is deliberately combined with traditional Emirates’ architecture.
The visit concluded with His Royal Highness receiving a pesambah and signing a plaque.
