Khal Baharulalam
DURING His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s visit to Belait yesterday as part of the royal get-together, the atmosphere was one of excitement as residents were generally gleeful at the chance to greet their monarch in person and pass along their well-wishes.
As the royal entourage departed from the royal dais towards the tents lined up from one end of the field to another, confetti was launched into the air to echoes of “Daulat Kebawah Duli Tuan Patik” from the crowds under a grey coloured sky that hinted of rain.
The tents under which the meet-and-greet took place were divided into segments where different groups were based such as committee members, government and non-government organisations, schools and associations and Mukims.
The monarch made his way through the massive crowd accompanied by the royal entourage, igniting smiles and joy among those who had gathered at this spot. Most people had dressed up for the occasion.
Hundreds of foreigners residing and working in the country also made use of the opportunity to greet the royal family. Those present that were unable to meet and greet His Majesty in person were still seen in high spirits as they wandered around the confetti-covered field.
At almost every section of the tents, His Majesty’s care for his subjects was clearly seen through the graceful way he interacted with them.
While some took the opportunity to praise and thank their monarch, some people came with His Majesty’s photo or painting to be autographed by His Majesty. The feeling of joy was visible throughout the get-together.
