Her Majesty attends 2nd day of Knowledge Convention

HER Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha yesterday graced the second day of the Knowledge Convention 2013 at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

Accompanying Her Majesty at the convention were Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah,

Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah.

Upon arrival at the ICC, Her Majesty and other members of the royal family were greeted by Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Hayati binti Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Salleh, the Attorney General, in her capacity as a member of the Steering Committee for the Knowledge Convention 2013.

Also greeting the royal entourage was the Joint Chairman of the Steering Committee of Knowledge Convention 2013, Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, the Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office; Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr)Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

The convention commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Yahya bin Haji Ibrahim, the Syar’ie Chief Justice.

In a welcoming speech by the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Wahab bin Juned, in his capacity as chairman of the premier lecture for the Knowledge Convention 2013, expressed his gratitude for Her Majesty’s consent to grace the second day of the Knowledge Convention 2013.

Her Majesty also consented to listen to a premier lecture delivered by Professor Dr Najibah binti Mohd Zain, Deputy Dean (Academic), Ahmad Ibrahim Kuliyyah of Laws, from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia.

The lecture revolved on how Syariah Criminal Legislation preserves the dignity of women and society.

A Doa Selamat was later read by Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Yahya bin Haji Ibrahim.

After the premier lecture, Her Majesty and other members of the royal family consented to view an exhibition on the Knowledge Convention 2013. The exhibition is divided into six sections and showcases information on the Syariah Penal Code with regard to its roles in empowering and enhancing society.

Her Majesty also consented to visit the Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Memorial Gallery and consented to sign a royal parchment.

The Knowledge Convention is organised in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 67th birthday celebrations. - Borneo Bulletin (24 October 2013)
