Sultan arrives for Asean Summit in Cambodia

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday safely arrived in Phnom Penh, the Kingdom of Cambodia, to attend the 21st Asean Summit and related meetings.

Present at the Phnom Penh International Airport to greet His Majesty were Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information; Tuch Kermary, Personal Assistant to the Prime Minister; Prak Ngoun Hong, Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as well as other senior officials from Cambodia.

Also at the airport were Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Awang Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II; Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister's Office and Shaikh Haji Fadilah bin Shaikh Haji Ahmad, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The 21st Asean Summit and its related meetings will be held from November 18-20, 2012 at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh, and will be chaired by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The Asean Summit's theme this year is "Asean: One Community, One Destiny", will welcome leaders from the member states, along with newly re-elected US President Barack Obama, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao as well as Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key and South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak.

A major upcoming highlight will be the symbolic handover of the Asean Chairmanship from Cambodia to Brunei on the last day of the summit.

Earlier in Brunei Darussalam, before His Majesty departed from Istana Nurul Iman, a Doa Selamat was read by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

Present at His Majesty the Sultan's Flight Hangar in Rimba to bid farewell to His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel; and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah as well as other members of the royal family.

Also present at the hangar were Pengiran Cheterias; Speaker of the State Legislative Council; Cabinet Ministers; Members of Councils; Deputy Ministers; the Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces; and the Commissioner of Police. - Borneo Bulletin (18 November 2012)
