Baiduri Finance Berhad has become the lead campaigner in the current month-long Road Safety Awareness Campaign, in collaboration with the Brunei National Road Safety Council (BNRSC) as the lead facilitator.
As part of the campaign, road safety pledge-taking ceremonies for schoolchildren took place yesterday at Al-Falaah School and Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School, spearheaded by the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society as co-campaigner, in partnership with the Ministry of Education.
Present to take the Road Safety Pledge at Al-Falaah School were the son and daughter of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah.
Meanwhile, the pledge-taking ceremony at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School yesterday involved a total of 239 students from Years 4 and 5. The participants included His Majesty's grandson, YAM Pengiran Anak 'Abdul Raqiib bin YAM Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim.
The chief guest at the event was the Director of the Department of Co-Curriculum Development, Ministry of Education, Pg Suhaimi bin Pg Hj Bakar.
A total of 100 Red Crescent members from the Brunei-Muara District were involved in the parade, which also coincided with the reading of the "Road Safety Pledge". The programme is one of the road safety awareness projects.
According to Senior Teacher of CCA II, Hjh Norhamizah Lailawati, the event was aimed at establishing the first-ever Red Crescent Association for the private primary school, while at the same time establishing a Road Safety Club.
She said the objective of the programme is to involve students of Yayasan SHHB Primary School to participate in the road safety campaign and, at the same time, to create awareness among the pupils on the importance of road safety, to instil the culture towards road safety and to obey the traffic rules and regulations anytime, anywhere.
The agencies involved in the campaign yesterday were the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society, Baiduri Finance, Co-Curriculum Department of the Ministry of Education, Bank Islam TAIB, the BNRSC and the Ministry of Communications.
Also present at the event was the President of Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society, Datin Hjh Siti Hajar binti Pehin Dato Hj Yussof.
The highlights of the programme were the mass taking of the Road Safety Pledge led by the Red Crescent Society and the presentation of banners to the school by the chief guest.
