His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to tour Lambak Kiri Secondary School after awarding land grants under the Temporary Occupation Licence (TOL) Land Scheme for Brunei-Muara District.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by the school's principal, Hj Saili bin Hj Chuchu, and his deputies, Halipah Hj Hussin (Academic) and Mohidin Hj Nordin (Administration).

The school's dance troupe, which will be competing in the final round of a national dance competition, performed a traditional Bruneian dance called "Jiting Laila Sembah" to welcome His Majesty.

His Majesty also viewed martial arts demonstrations by members of the school's Kendo Club.

According to James Lim Han Ching, the coordinator of the club, Kendo not only enhances one's physical and mental health but also moulds the mind and body.

Nurhafizah Arifin, a Year Nine student who joined the Kendo Club in February, said that her training has helped her to be a disciplined individual. "It's also a great way to learn about Japanese culture," she added.

His Majesty later proceeded to view the school's "Gallery of Knowledge" that showcased students' projects and highlighted the excellent progress the school has made in the O-Level examination over the years.

During the tour, His Majesty observed how classes were conducted in the school and interacted with students. His Majesty later consented to receive a pesambah in the form of a batik artwork that was made by the school's 2010 O-Level students.

At the end of the visit, His Majesty commented that it was important for students to "brush up" their interaction skills, as some students "did not show confidence" when answering questions. His Majesty later visited the Municipal Board in Jalan Subok. - Borneo Bulletin (28th June 2011)
