Royal condolences to Thailand, Cambodia

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send messages of condolence to His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand, and His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, the King of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the loss of lives and damages to property caused by floods in several provinces of Thailand and Cambodia.

His Majesty also extended his condolences to the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, Yingluck Shinawatra, and Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and to the respective government and people of both countries.

In the messages, His Majesty expressed his deep sadness upon learning of the disaster.

In concluding his message to Their Majesties of Thailand and Cambodia, His Majesty the Sultan extended his deepest condolences and also to the people of both nations at this time of bereavement and personal loss, especially to those affected by the disaster.

In concluding a similar message to the Thai and Cambodian prime ministers, His Majesty stated that his government as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam joined him in extending their sympathies to the Government and people of Thailand and Cambodia, especially those affected by the floods.

At least 269 people have died in more than two months of floods that have damaged the homes and livelihoods of millions of people in Thailand, according to the government. More than 200 people have died in neighbouring Cambodia, AFP reported. - Borneo Bulletin (12th Octopber 2011)
