Nightly vigils continue every night to enliven Royal Wedding couples

Istiadat Berjaga-jaga in enlivening the Royal Wedding between His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s daughter, Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bulqiah and Yang Mulia Pengiran Khairul Khalil bin Pengiran Syed Haji Jaafari was held last night.

At Istana Nurul Iman, the ceremony was held in the presence of Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz. It was attended by Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan, Pehin-Pehin Manteri and Senior Government Officers.

Syair presentation also performed during the night. Dikir performances by groups comprising officer and teachers of Arabic Schools, Brunei Two Religious Schools, Belait District mosque officers and officers, Imams and congregates of Kampung Mentiri National Housing Scheme Mosque. Similar dikir presentation also performed by women groups comprising officers and teachers of Arabic Schools and Brunei Two Religious Schools.

In another part of Istana Nurul Iman, the women played traditional games such as ‘congkak’, ‘pasang’ and other indoor games. Present were wives of Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet Ministers, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan, Pehin-Pehin Manteri and Senior Government Officers. Doa selamat was read by Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.

Meanwhile, the Istiadat Malam Berjaga-Jaga or the nightly vigils were also held at the Darul Karamah, Kampung Beribi, the residence of the Royal Groom last night. It was held in the presence of Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Sanggamara Diraja Retired Major General Pengiran Haji Ibnu Ba’asith. There was a dikir presentation performed by officers and religious teachers from Tutong District, Islamic Education Department as well as youths from Kampung Pengkalan Batu Mosque. Among those present was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Mohiddin.

In the other part of Darul Karamah, women groups played traditional ‘Congkak’. Dikir presentation was also performed by officers and religious teachers from Tutong District, Islamic Education Department as well as Women Dikir Associations from Kampung Lambak Kiri and Mukim Berakas ‘A’. Doa Selamat was read by Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Salim. (9th June 2007)
