Flag lowering marks closing of Sultan's birthday celebrations

The ceremony to lower the large-sized Brunei flag ceremony was held at the open space of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital yesterday morning. This marked the end of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 61st birthday celebrations.

The guest of honour was Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Dani Haji Ibrahim, who witnessed the lowering of the flag and received the flag from a member of the Royal Brunei Navy personnel.

The ceremony began with 50 police orchestra personnel playing the national anthem with Pg Hj Rakit Pg Hj Osman, the Officer Commanding Police District Brunei leading them.

As the song was played, a number of personnel from the Royal Brunei Navy marched into the open space and started to lower of the flag.

The Brunei flag was presented to the guest of honour as various senior government officers, Brunei-Muara district officers, Penghulus and Village Heads along with officers and personnel of the Ministry of Home Affairs looked on. - Borneo Bulletin (7th August 2007)
