Colourful performances in the capital

Communities in the Brunei-Muara District braved heavy rains on Monday evening to witness numerous colourful cultural performances, presented by various mukims and villages in the district, near the Royal Regalia in the capital.

Present at the event were Brunei-Muara District Officer Dato Paduka Awang Haji Md Yussop bin Bakar and his wife as well as other senior officials of the Brunei-Muara District Office.

Also in attendance were penghulus and village heads in the district.

The event, organised by the Brunei-Muara District Office, was part of a series of activities held in conjunction with the Royal Wedding.

The evening event saw two traditional songs performed by Gambus Gataran Irama Warisan from Kampong Burong Pingai Ayer and Tausyeh from Mukim Berakas 'A'; an adok-adok dance by Mukim Pengkalan Batu; berdondang by Mukim Tamoi and Burong Pingai Ayer, silat presentations and gulingtangan by Mukim Pengkalan Batu; bermukun by Mukim Sungai Kebun and Mukim Kota Batu of Kampong Setia 'B'; dance performances by Mukim Serasa; syair by Mukim Berakas 'A'; zapin by Mukim Mentiri; syair by Mukim Kilanas; song presentations by Mukim Lumapas; and rongeng performance by Mukim Serasa.

The audience was also entertained by a group presentation, "Dong Dong Oma". - Borneo Bulletin (6th June 2007)
