The Art and Photography Competition Exhibition held in conjunction with the 61st birthday celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was opened yesterday by the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Adanan at the International Convention Centre.
Winners of the competition also walked away with their prizes. In Category A of the art competition, Hj Md Abidin bin Hj Rashid was the champion while Marsidi bin Omar and Yussof bin Matzin came in second and third places respectively.
For the A2 Open Category entitled Globalisation Era, the first place winner was Zakaria bin Omar while Hj Md Abidin bin Hj Rashid and Pg Hj Timbang bin Pg Hj Tuah took the second and third places respectively.
In both categories the champion walked away with $3,000 and a certificate, while the second and third place winners pocketed $2,000 and $1,000 respectively plus a certificate.
Category B, which was opened to students and with the theme Globalisation Era, Ak Md Izzuddin bin Pg Omarali bagged the first place with $1,500 while Ak Md Naqib bin Pg Timbang and Mohd Al-Hafizah bin Hj Jambol came in second and third places with $1,000 and $500 respectively.
The main prize, picked by the panel of judges, again went to Hj Md Abidin bin Hj Rashid, winning $3,000.
The panel of judges for the art competition were Dato Paduka Hj Idris bin Hj Abas, Pg Dato Paduka Asmalee bin Ahmad, Baharudin bin Md Arus and Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Jalil bin Abdul Rahman.
The presentation of prizes to the photography competition winners then followed.
In Category A, the first place winner was Pg Mohd Dahlan bin Pg Hj Mohd Said while Hatnan bin Hj Buang and Hj Muhammad bin Hj Sulaiman took the second and third places respectively.
In Category B, Hj Shamsuddin bin Hj Idris bagged the first place while Haji Samat bin Hj Abas and Dato Seri Laila Jasa Awang Hj Md Kassim bin Hj Daud came in second and third respectively.
In Category C, the champion was Adi Putera bin Haji Abdul Hamid while Mohammad Nazib bin Haji Jumat and Ibrahim bin Haji Sabtu came in second and third respectively.
Last but not least, the first place in Category D was grabbed by Haji Jamaludin bin Hj Tengah. Nordin bin Hj Barudin and Haji Muhammad bin Hj Sulaiman took the second and third places respectively.
The panel of judges for the photography competition were James Ling Ching Khun, Hii Che Siew, Ting Nai Ho, Leong Choon Min and Ong Heng Seng.
The event began with a speech delivered by the Co-Chairman of the event, Dato Paduka Haji Idris bin Haji Abas, followed by the presentation of prizes to the winners. The guest of honour, the Minister of Home Affairs, also toured the exhibition to take a closer look at the participating arts and photographs.
