Royal dedication to the nation's development

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, yesterday consented to a working visit to the headquarters of the Public Works Department, Ministry of Development (MoD).

Upon his arrival, HRH was greeted by the Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Dato Seri Paduka Awg Hj Eusoff Agaki bin Hj Ismail, and Deputy Minister of Development, Dato Paduka Dr Hj Mat Suny bin Hj Mohd Hussein.

Also greeting HRH upon arrival were the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Pg Dato Paduka Hj Abu Bakar PSI Pg Hj Ismail, Permanent Secretary (Technical and Professional) Dato Paduka Awg Hj Mohd Said P.O.K.P.S. Dato Paduka Hj Hashim, Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance), Awg Hj Brahim Hj Ismail, and Acting Director General of the Public Works Department, Awg Hj Mohd Zin Hj Mohd Salleh, as well as directors and senior officers of the department.

Prior to his working visit, HRH consented to a group photo with the minister, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries and other senior officers at the Department of Public Works.

HRH's working visit began with a viewing of an exhibition at the lobby of the ground floor. HRH was briefed on the strategic planning, strategic issues and the history of Public Works by the Acting Director General of the Public Works Department.

HRH visited the Tender Distribution Unit, IT and Administration Section on the ground floor, and was briefed by Director of Administration and Finance, Awg Abd Hamid Abdullah, while touring the various sections.

This department is responsible for providing administrative and financial services, upgrade capabilities, skills and human resource qualifications, thus ensuring that the needs of info-communication technology and related services are sufficiently met. It also ensures that safety and health practices relevant to the working environment are obeyed.

HRH then proceeded to the Administration and Finance Department on the first floor, where HRH consented to view the exhibition and study information on the various training sessions organised by the Human Resources Development Department of the Public Works Department.

HRH also consented to sign the guestbook and view an exhibition on the Finance Section before proceeding to the second floor, where HRH was briefed by the Director of Development, Awg Marzuke Hj Mohsin.

At this department, HRH consented to view another exhibition on the "Project Management Information System" (PROMISe) and visit the Project Unit.

HRH visited various sections on the third floor and the offices of the Director General and Deputy Director General of Public Works.

HRH proceeded to the Development Control and Integrated Biling System Units, after which HRH visited the Technical Services Department on the second floor and consented to be briefed by the Acting Director of Technical Services, Pg Anak Hajah Norhasimah Pg Hj Ibrahim. HRH also visited the Structural Section of the department.

The Technical Services Department is responsible for preparing building plans, graphic works, interior design, maintenance work and foundation engineering.

HRH visited another part of the Technical Services Department on the first floor, before visiting the Architect Section and listening to a briefing on the "Electronic Integrated Document Project System" (e-IDPS).

HRH's working visit concluded at the Quality Surveyor Section of the Technical Services Department. This department is responsible for providing QS to government agencies.

After the visit to the Public Works Headquarters at the Old Airport Government Complex, HRH consented to attend mass Zohor prayers before heading for a luncheon and a get-together session with senior officers and officers from the Public Works Department at the Orchid Garden Hotel.

HRH's visit to the Public Works Department yesterday reflects his concern for the development and running of projects, as well as activities related to infrastructure development that would lead towards the vision of MoD, and as an encouragement for government servants to perform their duties and responsibilities with more commitment, dedication and efficiency.

The working visit also reflects continuous support towards His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam's efforts in ensuring that government agencies are always observant and sensitive towards current development in order to ensure the nation's prosperity and tranquility in upholding the nation's vision. - Borneo Bulletin (5th August 2007)
