Congratulatory messages to Myanmar

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to send a congratulatory message to Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, and General Soe Win, Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar, on the occasion of the Independence Day Anniversary of Myanmar.

In his message, His Majesty expressed satisfaction with the warm and friendly relations and deep understanding between Brunei Darussalam and Myanmar at bilateral level and in Asean, regional and international forums. His Majesty hoped that this would be maintained and enhanced in the future for the good of the two countries and people.

His Majesty also hoped that Senior General Than Shwe would always remain in good health and happiness and for the people of Myanmar to always enjoy continued progress and prosperity. At the same time, in a similar congratulatory message to General Soe Win, His Majesty congratulated the prime minister and the government and people of Myanmar on the occasion of its Independence Day Anniversary.

His Majesty expressed satisfaction with the warm and friendly relations between the two countries. His Majesty also expressed his wish that this will be maintained and enhanced in the future for the mutual benefit of the two countries and people. His Majesty also wished General Soe Win his continued good health and happiness and for the prosperity of the people of Myanmar.

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, sent his warmest congratulations to Major General U Nyan Win, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar on the occasion of its 59th Independence Day.

In the message, His Royal Highness said, "It has been a pleasure working with you and I look forward to continuing to strengthen our countries' relations as close neighbours and regional partners in the coming year." (4th January 2007)
