By Za'im Zaini

Families and friends flocked to the Muara Beach to take part in the 2007 Beach Festival, which was filled with sports, exhibitions, competitions and stage performances.

The event began at 9am and ended at around 5pm.

The festival was officiated by the Brunei-Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Haji Yussop Bakar.

There were also stage performances comprising gulingtangan, zapin dance, mukun, modern dances and even a comedy sketch.

A singing contest was also held which was divided into five categories and catered to residents of Mukim Serasa.

The event also placed emphasis on the environment where visitors entered into a contest to clear rubbish and ensured that the beach was kept clean.

The Beach Festival 2007 was held in conjunction with His Majesty's 61st birthday. - Borneo Bulletin (30th July 2007)
