An annual gasing championship was yesterday held at Setanaga Gasing Ring, Kampong Selayun Sengkurong, organised by Brunei Darussalam National Gasing Association in conjunction with His Majesty's 61st birthday celebrations.
This year's event was divided into four categories: Traditional Gasing, Gasing Borneo Disiut, Gasing Borneo Ditanah, and Gasing Pangkah Banyak Uri.
Pasukan Sengkurong Bersatu took the first place in the Traditional Gasing category, beating first and second runners-up Manggis Bersatu B and Prisons Department B.
The team also snatched the top spot in the Gasing Borneo Disiut category, with Pasukan Semangat Gasing A and Kg Tanjong Nangka B in second and third places.
Gadong Mahligai took the first place in the Gasing Borneo Ditanah category, followed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Manggis Bersatu.
Labuan Federal Territory snatched the top spot in the Gasing Pangkah Banyak Uri category, with Pasuakan Lawas Sarawak and Miri Sarawak in second and third places.
Meanwhile, in the invitational category of Gasing Pangkah Banyak Uri, Labuan Federal Territory took the first place, followed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Limbang Sarawak.
Present as the guest of honour at the championship was Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Awang Dani bin Haji Ibrahim, who later handed over trophies and cheques to the winners.
