His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade yesterday attended the Informal Asean Ministerial Meeting (IAMM) at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, Asean foreign ministers discussed the third progress report of the High Level Task Force on the Asean Charter. The ministers also discussed outstanding Asean matters and agreed that the Chairman of the Asean Standing Committee would issue a statement on the current situation in Myanmar.
HRH and other foreign ministers of Asean later witnessed the signing ceremony of the MoU on Asean-UN Cooperation by the Secretary Generals of Asean and the UN.
HRH then later joined other Asean foreign ministers at the meeting with the Secretary-General of the UN. The meeting discussed ways to enhance Asean-UN cooperation.
Later in the afternoon, HRH attended the Asean Foreign Ministers meeting with Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State of the United States of America, where the ministers discussed progress in Asean-US dialogue relations and regional and international affairs.
In the evening, HRH attended a reception hosted by Hon Datuk Seri Syed Hamid bin Syed Jaafar Albar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia at the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the UN in New York.
The reception was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Malaysia's membership to the UN and in honour of the Right Hon Dato' Seri Hj Abdullah bin Hj Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia.
