Al-Quran reading competition for adults at Islamic Dakwah Centre

Hj Mohd Mahdi Pehin Dato Laila Utama Hj Abd Rahman, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs and one of the chief guests who spoke on behalf of the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Dani, at an Al-Quran reading competition for adults yesterday in the Islamic Dakwah Centre, highlighted the benefits of reading the Quran.

The contest was co-organised in conjunction with His Majesty's 61st Birthday celebration by one of its committees, as well as the Ministry of Home Affairs, Iqra School and Islamic Dakwah Centre, Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Also present was Hjh Rashidah Hj Mohd Zain, as a personal representative of the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.

Event Chairman and President of Iqra Association Hj Mashud also gave the welcoming remarks.

Hj Tahir Hj Ladis and Hjh Hamsiah Hj Mohd Husain emerged as the winners in their respective categories.

The religious function also saw a Nasyid performance from the students of Iqra Primary School, before prizes were presented to the winners. - Borneo Bulletin (28th July 2007)
