His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), yesterday consented to receive in audience Chief of General Staff, United Kingdom, General Sir Richard Dannatt KCB CBE MC ADC Gen.
The audience took place at the Istana Nurul Iman. Accompanying the UK Chief of General Staff was RBAF Commander Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi Hj Md Yussof and Mr John Donald William Saville, British High Commissioner to Brunei.
Also present at the audience ceremony were Dayang Hjh Salbiah binti Haji Sulaiman, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office and Pg Dato Paduka Mashor bin Pg Ahmad, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.
Meanwhile, in another room at the Istana Nurul Iman, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha also consented to receive in a separate audience the spouse of UK Chief of General Staff, Lady Philippa Dannatt.
Lady Philippa Dannatt was accompanied by wife of RBAF Commander Datin Hjh Kalshom Hj Suhaili and wife of British High Commissioner to Brunei Mrs Fabiola Moreno de Alboran.
The visiting UK Chief of General Staff also paid a courtesy call on the Commander of RBAF at the Ministry of Defence in Bolkiah Garrison and a goodwill call on the Commander of RBLF at the RBLF Headquarters in Berakas Garrison.
General Sir Richard Dannatt has been in the country since February 26 on a 3-day official visit aimed at continuing the existing friendly relations and to enhance the importance of cooperation between both armies.
