His Majesty graces Knowledge Convention 2007

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to attend and officiate the Knowledge Convention at the Plenary Hall yesterday at the International Convention Centre, Berakas.

Accompanying His Majesty were HRH Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's office, HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, HRH Prince Abdul Azim and HRH Prince Abdul Malik.

His Majesty was greeted upon arrival by Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Adanan, the Minister of Home Affairs who is the chairman of the national committee for His Majesty's 61st birthday celebrations, and Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz Bin Juned, the State Mufti, in his capacity as adviser to the steering committee for the Knowledge Convention 2007.

The event began with a recital of al-Quran verses followed by a speech from Dato Seri Paduka Eusoff Agaki Haji Ismail, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, who also co-chairs the steering committee for Knowledge Convention 2007.

This was followed by His Majesty's titah. Later, His Majesty consented to launch the Knowledge Convention. The launch was also marked by a tausyeh performance, followed by the recital of doa selamat by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

His Majesty also consented to tour the Knowledge Convention 2007 exhibition, or MajIEx 2007, which features displays themed "Kepimpinan Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam" in various aspects of akidah, Islamic education, youth development and the development of muamalat maliah, an exhibition from the Balai Kenangan Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saiffudien.

Displays about an akidah society, khurafat and bid'ah, astronomy, fossils and an exhibition from the Balai Pameran Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah are an enriching experience.

During His Majesty's tour around the exhibition, the monarch consented to receive pesambah from several of the exhibitors. Towards the end, His Majesty consented to sign the Knowledge Convention 2007 plaque.

The exhibition is open to the public until August 19, from 9am to 6pm.

A seminar to motivate an akidah-driven community will be held for two days on July 25 and July 26. A keynote address will be delivered during the seminar for the Knowledge Convention by the State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.
