A number of events have been planned by Tutong District to be held in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 61st birthday.

A meeting about the get-together event between His Majesty and the rakyat was held at the main hall of Tutong's Community Hall Complex yesterday. It was chaired by Assistant Tutong District Officer Awang Hj Haris Othman.

Besides discussing the balance sheet for this year's grand celebration, working committee members were also appointed. During the meeting, various events to be held in conjunction with His Majesty's birthday celebration in the district were discussed.

Rafting competitions, home science fairs, fun runs and antique car shows are just some of the events that the district has planned.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that students from various primary and secondary schools in the district will be involved in nightly performances. Youths as well as residents from mukims and villages will also be involved in the cultural shows.

The district has also lined up a number of sporting events such as football, netball, basketball and volleyball competitions. There will also be speedboat and cycling races.

A 4X4 competition and tug-of-war are just some of the events that have been lined up to enliven His Majesty's birthday celebration in Tutong. (25th January 2007)
