Prince Abdul Muqtadir yesterday led a tree-planting ceremony at Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College. Also present at the event were Pg Hjh Sarah Pg Hj Kamaluddin, Principal of Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, Mr Tareq Muhmood, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HSBC, and Rosdi Amin Yakub, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of HSBC and Corporate Banking Manager.

The ceremony, organised by HSBC through its "HSBC Cares" programme and Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, saw 10 saplings being planted.

In a speech by Mr Muhmood, he expressed his appreciation to the college for giving HSBC the opportunity to be involved in such an important initiative.

He continued by stressing that HSBC would commit to sustaining a green future for our planet, as well as to slow down and prevent global warming and conserve energy.

He also expressed his gratitude to Excapade Sushi Restaurant for donating tools to the college's Environmental Club, as well as Tri-Sun (B) Sdn Bhd and MacHouse Interior Décor for lending tools for the ceremony.

The event also saw the CEO presenting HSBC mugs to students. The mugs, an initiative from the college's Environmental Club, will be used by the students in the canteen as an effort to move towards a more environmental-friendly college.

"The mugs symbolise a token of HSBC and Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College working together to reduce the usage of disposable products such as plastic cups. This is a small way for each of us to save the environment," said Mr Muhmood.

Another ceremony will be held on September 2 where HSBC staff will get the chance to plant another 30 saplings with the students. - Borneo Bulletin (24th August 2007)
