Sultan attends thanksgiving prayers for National Day

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday joined more than 500 worshippers at mass thanksgiving prayers to commemorate the 23rd National Day at the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital.

Accompanying His Majesty to the prayers were HRH Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, The Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, HRH Prince Abdul Malik and HRH Prince Abdul Mateen.

His Majesty was greeted upon arrival by Pehin Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr Ustaz Awang Haji Mohd Zain Bin Haji Serudin, Minister of Religious Affairs.

The event commenced with mass maghrib prayer led by Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Yahya bin Ibrahim, followed by "Hajat" prayers led by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Salim bin Haji Besar, Syariah High Court Judge.

The mass recitation of Surah Yassin was led by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, whilst a thanksgiving prayer was recited by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz Bin Juned, State Mufti. Mass Isya' prayer was led by Pehin Dato Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid Bin Bakal.

Similar mass prayers were held in other main mosques, suraus and prayer halls all over the country. (23rd February 2007)
