Thousands thronged at the field adjoining Seri Kenangan Community Hall in Tutong District to welcome His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam to the "Bersama Rakyat" event held for that district on Thursday.

The event, a gift from the Tutong community to the beloved monarch on the occasion of His Majesty's birthday, was held in conjunction with His Majesty's 61st birthday celebrations.

Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Azim and His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Haji Adanan, senior government officials and the Acting Tutong District Officer, Hj Jamain bin Hj Momin, welcomed the royal entourage at the Helipad area located near the Tutong District Officer's official residence.

The highlight of the event was the field performances made up of 700 individuals, including students, members of ethnic communities and various groups who performed in their traditional and colourful costumes.

The performance was themed "Raja Berdaulat Membawa Rahmat".

His Majesty consented to greet members of the Tutong community along the designated area where various tents have been set up to represent various mukims of Tutong, the Tutong Youth Community Club, as well as special individuals hailing from Tutong district.

His Majesty also consented to take a group photo with various senior government officials, the Tutong Mukim and village heads, as well as the organising committee for the event prior to the Santap that was held at the Seri Kenangan Community Hall.

The event was the second of "Bersama Rakyat" events that are held in conjunction with the 61st royal birthday celebrations. - Borneo Bulletin (20th July 2007)
