Belait District gears up for royal visit
By Liza Mohd

As Tutong District celebrates today to mark His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam's 61st birthday, Belait District residents are preparing for their turn to welcome His Majesty this Saturday.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yusof, was at the Taman Jubilee Recreational Park along Jalan Maulana yesterday morning to view the final preparations for the get-together event in the oil-and-gas town to celebrate the monarch's 61st birthday.

Over 2,050 performers swung into action during the full-dress rehearsal and final practice yesterday morning. The grand event is expected to draw over 30,000 people, who will get the chance to greet His Majesty.

The performers comprise people from various government departments and the private sector, educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, Mukim and Kampong Consultative Councils and multi-racial communities living in the district.

The theme for this year's field performances in Belait is "Nostalgia Seni Klasik Silam", which will be illustrated by seven classic dances that reflect the past lifestyles of people from various cultures and races living in the district.

It is hoped that the field performances will lead the district to victory this year after seven consecutive wins. - Borneo Bulletin (19th July 2007)
