His Majesty bestows title on S'pore Defence Force Chief

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), yesterday consented to bestow the title of "Darjah Paduka Keberanian Laila Terbilang Yang Amat Gemilang Darjah Pertama (D.P.K.T)" to the Chief of Defence Force, Singapore, Lieutenant General Desmond Kuek Bak Chye at the Istana Nurul Iman.

His Majesty also consented to receive in audience the Chief of Defence, Singapore Armed Forces.

Also present during the audience were Deputy Minister of Defence, Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Hj Umar; Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Hj Mohd Yusof; and Singapore High commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Mr Joseph K H Koh.

Datin Paduka Dyg Hajah Salbiah binti Hj Sulaiman, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, and Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Rashid bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, were also present.

The three-day official visit by Lieutenant General Desmond Kuek Bak Chye to the Sultanate is aimed at strengthening the friendly relations and to extend the importance of defence cooperation between the two countries, as well as the respective armed forces. - Borneo Bulletin (17th August 2007)
