Festive mood omnipresent on Belait streets
By Liza Mohd

Belait District has been transformed into a district of dazzling neon lights and majestic arches to greet His Majesty's upcoming 60th birthday celebrations.

Both KB and Seria towns have been given a facelift with flags and banners lined up along the roads to give them a more festive atmosphere.

Government agencies and companies have also contributed to the construction of congratulatory arches to mark the auspicious occasion.

In the spirit of the celebrations, there will also be activities such as Agri Food Festival, Borneo Youth Culture Camp, Gemilang 60 Exhibition, Water Festival, Healthy Kids Competition, and cat competition.

Most importantly is the get-together ceremony where members of the public get to meet their beloved ruler and royal entourage on July 22 in Padang Bandaran Belait as well as enjoy a series of spectacular field performances.

Meanwhile, rehearsals are being carried out in all four districts to ensure performances are run accordingly, and Home Affairs Minister Pehin Dato Haji Awang Adanan bin Pehin Dato Haji Awang Mohd Yusof is scheduled to attend the get-together rehearsal today.

Residents in the Belait District as well as those from neighbouring states are expected to attend the celebrations, particularly July 31's mega concert. - Borneo Bulletin (8th July 2006)
