Twelve teams of respective categories 'A', 'B' and 'C' from all four districts are set to compete in the National Level Tug-Of-War Championship 2006 finals, vying for the honour of winning the HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah Challenge Trophy.
The final matches will be held on July 9, 2006 from 9.00am until finish at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium, Gadong Police Headquarters.
The event's organiser, the Brunei Darussalam Tug-of-War Association said only the final matches of categories 'A' and 'C' will be held on Sunday, whereas for Category 'B', the final match will be held on July 23 at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien in the capital during the get-together ceremony of His Majesty and His Majesty's subjects.
Apart from the HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah Challenge Trophy, winners in each category will also receive a medal and cash prize donated by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) and Perbadanan Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB).
The organiser said this year's champion in Category 'B' will represent Brunei Darussalam to compete at the Asean Level Tug-of-War Championship. Brunei will play host to the event, which is to be held early August 2006. Six other Asean member countries, namely Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines will also compete in the championship.
Members of the public and tug-of-war fans are welcome to witness and support their teams.
For the National Level Tug-Of-War Championship 2006 finals, Brunei-Muara District is represented by Ministry of Development in Category A, Royal Brunei Police Force in Category B, Remaja Pembangunan (Ministry of Development) in Category C.
The Temburong District will meanwhile be represented by PAMIT (Persatuan Masyarakat Iban Temburong) in Category A, Kg Menengah FC in Category B and Remaja Kg Menengah FC in Category C.
Representing the Tutong District are Disaster (Tutong Sports Complex) in Category A, Mega Power (Kg Sungai Kelugus) in Category B, Pelanduk Lapu (Kg Sungai Kelugus) in Category C.
The Belait District will be represented by Bomba A (Fire and Rescue Department), BSP and Kunci Batu (Mukim Belait) in categories A, B and C respectively.
