Belait Chinese community pays tribute to Sultan
By James Sim

The Chinese community of Belait paid a warm and hearty tribute to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on the occasion of the monarch's 60th birthday celebrations.

The grand cultural performance which lasted over two hours received a rousing response from the hundred-strong crowd despite the heavy downpour.

The performance consisted of 12 dances, a karate-do show and choir performance by students of Chung Ching Middle School. Highlights of the performance were presentations by kindergarten pupils of the school, including the special Lion Dance that drew a thunderous applause.

Secondary students danced to the rustic tunes of the villages symbolising enjoyment and peace. Out of all the dances, the Malay dance performance by the primary section stood out as it aptly expressed the warmth of the occasion. - Borneo Bulletin (8th Aug 2006)
