The Convention for Knowledge 2006, or Majlis Ilmu, will be one of the key events to be held during the celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 60th birthday.
The convention will be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) from July 20 to 30 with plans afoot to extend it until August 15. A similar convention was also held last year, which received an encouraging response.
The convention, organised by the Prime Minister's Office, this year will carry the theme "Sovereign Monarch, Blessed Nation and People on Righteous Direction".
The convention will act as a platform to support the monarch's leadership and his desire to develop knowledge among people with blessings from Allah the Almighty.
It will also be an event to show the subjects' appreciation towards the monarch, to generate ideas and create awareness among the general public that will preserve the sovereignty of the monarch.
A press conference was held yesterday at the Darulifta Building, State Mufti's Office, attended by members of the steering and working committee comprising Pengiran Dato Haji Ismail, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office who is also the deputy co-chairman of the steering committee for the convention; Dato Ahmad Bukhari, Director of Administration, State Mufti's office and also the secretary for the committee and head secretariat for the convention; Awang Haji Amer Hamzah, Acting Director of Information and co-deputy chairman of broadcasting and information working committee; and Awg Haji Mohd Yussof, Director of Radio Television Brunei who is also the deputy chairman of broadcasting and information committee.
