Temburong rehearses royal welcome
By Yusrin Junaidi

With less than two weeks before the nation celebrates the 60th birthday of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, preparations throughout the four districts are now in full swing.

One of the most anticipated events will be His Majesty's get-together with the 'raykat', and to ensure a smooth and successful gathering, thousands of participants from Temburong took part in a full dress rehearsal in the district.

The participants, comprising members of the government and private sector, students, youth representatives as well as mukim and kampong consultative committee members, honed their skills for His Majesty's get-together with the 'rakyat' to be held later this month.

On hand to witness the rehearsal was Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Awang Hj Adanan and his deputy, Pehin Dato Awang Hj Dani.

Among the highlights of the ceremony will be an extravagant field performance showcasing the district's rich cultural heritage that will take place at the Temburong District Community Hall Complex.

Besides the field performance, another anticipated event is the official opening of the 'Arca Taman Gemilang 60', a commemorative monument in honour of His Majesty's 60th birthday.

There will also be five galleries featuring static displays that will focus on government departments, associations and NGOs, the private sector, consultative members and nostalgia.

Another special event will be the gathering for residents of Temburong aged 60 and above.

The theme for this year's gathering is 'Imbasan Kenangan Di Bumi Hijau'. - Borneo Bulletin (6th July 2006)
