The 'Cendera Kenangan Kekal' project, a tribute to the 60th birthday of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, is expected to be completed by at least May next year and it is part of the overall waterfront project in Bandar Seri Begawan.
According to Lisa Dato Ibrahim of Arkitek Ibrahim, the firm behind the design of the monument, 'Cendera Kenangan Kekal', the monument has five sides to it, which symbolize the five pillars of Islam and a Jawi numeral for '60'.
The fishing net is to signify the water village, yet the move to high technology, there is also a beam of light which symbolizes His Majesty the Sultan as the guiding light of Brunei. It has gold-plated stainless steel and its highest base is eight metres with granite tiles, glass mosaic and tension wires and the whole monument itself is 292 sq metre.
