Loyal companies chip in for Sultan's birthday

A total of $156,841 in contributions accumulated since June this year was received by the Belait District level National Committee for His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 60th birthday celebration.

The contributions came from private companies, associations and businesses in the district whose representatives attended a ceremony yesterday morning at Dewan Santap to hand over their respective cheques to Acting Belait District Officer and Chairman of the celebration's National Committee Belait District level, Awg Hj Mohamad bin Hj Abd Rahman.

Among the contributions was $20,000 from BLNG presented by the company's Senior Plant Manager Hj Matsatejo bin Sokiaw.

Meanwhile presenting a contribution of $5,000 on behalf of Mashhor General Contractor Sdn Bhd was its Head of Corporate Affairs and Administration, Hj Abd Rashid bin Hj Ibrahim.

At a separate event in the afternoon, Deputy Managing Director of BSP, Hj Zainal Abidin bin Hj Mohd Ali, presented a cheque for $20,000 on behalf of BSP, BST and BSM to financially facilitate the grand free mega concert 'Gemilang' in Kuala Belait this year.

Awg Hj Mohamad noted that the gathering yesterday morning provided a platform for sponsors to contribute to the country and strengthen relations among the private sector, individuals and committee members.

He said that their contributions showed their high commitment and support towards ensuring the success of the events to be held in Belait District to mark His Majesty's 60th birthday. - Borneo Bulletin (4th July 2006)
