Rehearsing for Malam Serumpun

Hundreds of spectators including foreign tourists gathered at Taman Sir Muda Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital Wednesday night to witness the rehearsal of Malam Serumpun Seri 60, which was held to ensure a perfect and flawless event Saturday night.

Witnessed by several committee members of the 60th birthday celebrations of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in the Brunei-Muara District, the night saw the executive director of the event, Majid Alias, overseeing the rehearsal to ensure matching timing and coordination for the various activities that are scheduled to take place Saturday night.

The night will showcase the 4-in-1 celebrations comprising fireworks display, tug-of-war, float procession and cultural performances on the stage.

At the rehearsal, students carrying bunga dian and bunga manggar lined up at the entrance to greet the arrival of His Majesty and the Royal Entourage.

March past by flag bearers, sponsor committee, organisers and participants of tug-of-war contest and bands from uniformed departments were also rehearsed.

Emceed by Shahrizan Masri and Baizura Andy, the local performers and dancers also rehearsed their performances to perfection.

Seven teams from the Association of Southeast Nations (Asean) namely Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore and host country Brunei Darussalam are taking part in the Asean Tug-of-War competition.

Brunei Darussalam will be represented by the Brunei-Muara District's Royal Brunei Police Force. - Borneo Bulletin (4th August 2006)
