Monarchs view combat demos

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, and His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussien, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, consented to visit the Royal Brunei Armed Forces yesterday.

Their Majesties' itinerary began with the visit to the Ministry of Defence, Bolkiah Garrison.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted on arrival at the Ministry of Defence by Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, and Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md Yussof.

His Majesty then consented to receive a royal salute from 140 officers and personnel of the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Brunei Land Force led by Parade Commander, 410 Major Japarali bin Haji Othman.

His Majesty later greeted His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan on arrival at the Ministry of Defence, Bolkiah Garrison. Their Majesties consented to receive a royal salute and then proceeded to the Reception Room of the General's Office for a Flight Safety briefing. Prior to departure to the Temburong District, Their Majesties also consented to sign the Visit Parchments and a group photo session.

Upon arrival at the Ulu Sungai Majiwan, Temburong District, Their Majesties consented to witness the Special Combat Squadron (SCS) Demonstration preceded by a welcoming speech by the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and followed by a briefing on the demonstration by Lt Colonel Abu Bakar bin Haji Hassan, Acting director of Operation, Ministry of Defence.

Soon after, Their Majesties proceeded to the VVIP Shooting and Presentation Ceremony area where His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam presented the Special Combat Squadron (SCS) Honorary Badge and Beret to His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. This was followed by a luncheon at the Bangar Camp Officer's Mess and a briefing on Bangar Camp by the Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force, Colonel Pengiran Haji Rosli bin Pengiran Haji Chuchu. Their Majesties also consented to sign the Visit Parchments.

After the luncheon, the Commander of RBAF presented a pesambah to His Majesty King Abdullah II and also to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Before leaving Temburong District, Their Majesties consented to a group photo session followed by the planting of a sapling at the Officers' Mess Compound.

Last night, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was hosted to a dinner by His Majesty King Abdullah II at the Empire Hotel & Country Club in Jerudong.

His Majesty was greeted by the King of Jordan on arrival. Also gracing the dinner was HRH Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah. Other prominent guests at the dinner included the Jordanian King's delegates, cabinet ministers and senior government officers.

Today, the King of Jordan will perform Friday prayers at the Jame' Asr Mosque in Kiarong. - Borneo Bulletin (3rd Mar 2006)
