His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to lead thousands of participants in the Walkathon Emas 60, held in conjunction with Sultan's upcoming 60th birthday celebrations.
The event was aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle, in response to the Sultan's concern for the general well being of the people.
Accompanying the monarch yesterday in the walkathon was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik.
Also present were YAM Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila DiRaja Sahibul Irshad Pg Anak Hj Abdul Rahim as well as Cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
On arrival at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien, His Majesty and other members of the royal family were greeted by His Majesty's 60th Birthday Celebrations Committee members.
His Majesty joined a warm-up session before officiating the 3.8-kilometre walkathon, which brought them through Jalan Kg Kianggeh, Jalan Subok and Jalan Residency before concluding at the Taman.
During the walkathon, the Sultan smiled and waved at his loyal subjects who took the opportunity to greet their caring monarch.
