His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send congratulatory messages to His Majesty Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, and Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia on the occasion of Malaysia's 49th Independence Day.
His Majesty said he greatly values the warm and friendly relations and deep understanding that had so long been established between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia. His Majesty said he prayed that this friendship, which has greatly benefited both countries, would be maintained and enhanced in the years to come.
His Majesty together with Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Azrinaz Mazhar prayed to Allah the Almighty for both the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong's and Permaisuri Agong's longevity, welfare and good health as well for the continued welfare, peace and prosperity of their people.
In his message to Datuk Seri Abdullah, His Majesty prayed that the bilateral ties will be maintained and enhanced in the future both at the bilateral level and in Asean for the mutual benefit of the two countries and peoples.
Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, sent a congratulatory message to Malaysia's Foreign Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar.
His Royal Highness said, "I greatly appreciate your personal contribution in strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between our two countries.
"I would also particularly like to congratulate you personally on the outstanding contribution to regional and international affairs in your chairmanship of many gatherings over the past year.
"I look forward to continue our work together in enhancing these much-valued relations both bilaterally and as long-standing regional and international partners."
