Temburong setting stage for grand celebration
By Haji Mohd Zaide Haji Damit

With just weeks to go before the monarch's 60th birthday, the Temburong District is wasting no time in setting the stage to welcome the grand celebration.

At the Belalong Mini Park, sprucing up works are currently in place, on top of the planting of various flowers to further beautify the surroundings.

A short distance away, the royal dais is taking shape at the Belalong Multipurpose Hall.

Numerous activities have been lined up for the celebration including stage performances involving associations, government departments, private sector and schools in the Temburong District.

Meanwhile, the River Regatta or Pesta Sungai is scheduled to be held on July 23.

According to Pesta Sungai Chairman Ampuan Hj Salleh bin Ampuan Hj Judah, there will be 15 events including a high horse-powered boat race, which will be open to both local and foreign racers.

Boat racers from Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and West Malaysia are expected to participate in the race.

Stalls will also be erected to ensure visitors don't go hungry during the celebration on July 19. - Borneo Bulletin (29th June 2006)
