The Belait "Mega Concert Gemilang Gemerlapan 60", held in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 60th birthday, will be a double celebration this year as it will run for two consecutive nights on July 31 and August 1.
According to chairman of the concert, Dr Hj Harun bin Mokti, the concert will feature renowned Indonesia artist Lola, who was recently crowned champion at the Konsert Dangdut Indonesia (KDI). The concert will also feature fellow contestants Devi and Fanny.
Top Malaysian band, Gerhana SKA Cinta, is also scheduled to perform, while Malaysian celebrity sisters Linda and Diana Raafar are expected to add colour to the event with their performance.
The free mega concert, which is expected to draw over 30,000 people as in previous years, will also feature five local teenage bands and three singers from the district to showcase their talents.
The teenage bands from Belait - First Quarter, Emverest, The Mixture and D'Medley - are expected to rock the stage, with most bands belting out progressive rock music.
Rising local singer Malai Sany or 'Mel', 19, who had a grand performance at the get-together ceremony in the district this year, will also be making his entrance at the concert. Mel, who has been performing since he was 13, had previously entered local competitions such as Talentime and Bintang RTB.
Additional singers to be featured at the concert include those trained by the PEMBELA Youth support network academy in Belait.
Yesterday afternoon, Dr Hj Harun also chaired a meeting at Belait District Office for committee members comprising relevant government agencies to discuss issues pertaining to safety, technical and logistic.
The chairman highlighted that the free mega concert is a prestigious event for residents in the district and will attract not only crowds from other district but also tourists from neighbouring countries.
