Some two hundred babies in the Belait District took part in the Healthy Baby competition, held for the eighth time by the Belait Women's Group Association in conjunction with His Majesty's 60th Birthday celebrations.
This year, winners of all four categories will compete again at the national level in a competition to be organised on September 1 at the Manggis Ballroom, Hua Ho Manggis Mall, Jalan Muara, according to the chairperson, Dyg Hjh Halimah bte Abdul Latiff. The competition will be carried out by the Brunei and Muara Committee for His Majesty's Birthday celebrations and the National Women's Group Association (WI).
The competition yesterday morning at the Kuala Belait Municipal Hall was divided into four categories, namely Category 'A' for babies from 6 to 9 months of age, Category 'B' for 9 to 12 months, Category 'C' for 12 to 18 months and Category 'D' for 18 to 24 months.
Emerging as champion in Category 'A' was Ahmad Khairul Ikhwan, while Category 'B' was won by Norsabrina Mohammad Hirzain. Categories 'C' and 'D' were won by Nur Adriana bte Haeryman and Muhammad Syahmi Irwan respectively. The four will be competing at the national level competition for the first time this year.
Dyg Hjh Halimah in her speech further stated that the competition is not only for show but is considered as a medium to channel general information in maintaining children towards a quality life.
The competition will also encourage parents to closely follow and fulfill health programmes recommended by the Ministry of Health in its effort to improve health quality and child's development, she concluded in her welcoming remarks.
Present as chief guest at yesterday's event was the wife of the Acting Belait District Officer, Dyg Hjh Suriana bte Hj Ahmed, who presented prizes to winners and also to babies born on July 15 this year. The winner of the special 'Best Dress' category was also awarded with a prize.
