By Rosli Abidin Yahya

The capital continues to be abuzz with activity, as workers work throughout the day to install arches, banners, posters, congratulatory messages and festivity lightings in preparation for His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan's 60th birthday celebration.

Huge banners are adorning some buildings to reflect the people's love and respect for their ruler who has also assumed the role of a global statesman, forging ties with other world leaders.

The focal point of the royal birthday celebration will be Taman Haji Sir Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital. The field, which is set to host various activities, is currently undergoing a transformation.

In conjunction with His Majesty's 60th birthday celebration, the people will also be hoisting the national flags on buildings, private residences and streets to express their commitment, loyalty and support for the benevolent monarch.

The National Committee of His Majesty's 60th birthday celebration will be hoisting a giant national flag in the capital, like in previous years. The hoisting of the national flag will also be done in the other three districts of Belait, Tutong and Temburong.

Meanwhile, various religious, cultural, entertainment and sporting activities are currently being planned for the celebration. - Borneo Bulletin (27th June 2006)
