Consumers are urged to provide continuous support to the Agri-Food Festival by giving priority to agricultural resources and locally made products.
This was stated by Commanding Officer of Belait District Police, Pg Kamaluddin bin PSR Hj Jaya, who launched the one-week Belait Agri-Food Festival yesterday morning.
OCPD Pg Kamaluddin, who was the guest of honour, said the Agri-Food Festival created opportunities in the agriculture and agribusiness sector, and to ensure continuous support, entrepreneurs should produce high quality products at affordable price.
The Belait Agri-Food Festival 2006 formerly known as the Agricultural Show, is organised by the Belait District Agriculture Department together with non-governmental organisations.
The Belait Agri-Food Festival is held alongside the Jamalul Alam Mosque and Belait government offices and will run for a week until August 2. The theme of this year's festival is 'Towards a Strong and Competitive Agri-Business'.
The Agri-Food Festival is divided into six categories namely processed food, processed machines, agricultural equipment and agricultural input product, instant food, landscape, decorative growth and plants as well as handicrafts and agricultural product such as vegetables, fruits and other plantations.
Side activities will also be held to enliven the event including colouring competitions, Tai Chi demonstrations and other entertainment. On August 1, a prize presentation ceremony will be held for winners of the stall competition as well as a certificate presentation to sponsors who contributed to the festival.
The Belait Agri-Food Festival is carried out to assist entrepreneurs in exposing development in the field of agricultural processing, handicraft and promoting investment and business opportunities particularly in agri-business.
It is also held on an annual basis to promote locally made products in the district and to further encourage entrepreneurs in bringing out interests among the communities and members of the public towards development and increasing agricultural products commercially.
The Agri-Food festival in Belait is open to members of the public from 10am till 10pm.
