Grand line-up for HM's 60th birthday celebration

The visit of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to Brunei Muara district, to be held at Taman Haji Sir Omar 'Ali Saifuddien in the capital, will be one of the highlights of a major celebration to mark the monarch's 60th birthday this year.

The itinerary of the visit by the monarch to the district was discussed during the second meeting of the Brunei Muara District National Committee for His Majesty's 60th Birthday Celebration, chaired by Brunei Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yussop bin Bakar, yesterday morning.

Held at the Bilik Gerakan Silturrahim of Brunei Muara District Office, Berakas, the meeting was attended by over 100 senior officials from the government and private sector, associations, non-governmental organisations as well as government and non-government schools in the district.

One of the highlights of the monarch's visit will be the finals of the tug-of-war for heavyweights competition, as well as field performances including a gulingtangan orchestra, rampak gendang, pop orchestra, choir group, dances and hadrah performance involving some 1,800 participants.

His Majesty is also expected to receive greetings and pledges of loyalty from the population of the district.

Among other events that have been lined up for the monarch's birthday celebration include sporting activities such as a semi-marathon, sponsored walkathon, silat, bicycle racing and expedition, car and boat remote control races, kite-flying, 4WD adventure, and tug-of-war.

Fireworks displays will also be held to mark the grand birthday celebration of His Majesty. - Borneo Bulletin (26th Jan 2006)
