National Committee meets on Royal Birthday Celebrations

The National Committee on His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 60th Birthday Celebrations held their final meeting at the Ceremonial Hall of the Lapau, in the capital yesterday morning.

Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awang Haji Adanan Bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Home Affairs in his capacity as the Chairman of the National Committee on His Majesty's 60th Birthday Celebrations, chaired the meeting.

This final meeting was aimed at gaining an update on the preparations of the main events organised for the celebration and to exchange ideas to enhance the quality of events.

During the meeting, the Minister of Home Affairs heard the final reports on preparations for the Get Together ceremonies with His Majesty, in all four districts.

The Minister of Home Affairs also received reports on the International Tattoo Performance 2006, Majlis Kesyukuran and the pledge of loyalty, Dirgahayu Emas concert, International Halal Products Expo 2006, Maljis ilmu, Walkathon Emas 60 and Malam Serumpun Seri 60.

Prior to the meeting, the Minister of Home Affairs in his welcoming address said that the celebration of His Majesty's 60th Birthday would start with the Flag Hoisting ceremony scheduled to take place on July 1, 2006 at the heart of the capital.

He also revealed that His Majesty has consented to join the "Walkathon Emas 60" on July 2, 2006. Other members of the Royal family were also expected to attend.

To liven up the atmosphere of the walkathon, the Minister of Home Affairs urged officials from all government departments and ministries together with the private sector and members of the public to take part in the "Walkathon Emas 60". - Borneo Bulletin (25th June 2006)
