His Majesty visits mukims in Belait District
By Lyna Mohammad

Mukims Melilas, Sukang and Labi in the Belait District yesterday came under the scrutiny of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam, the first of the monarch's visits to mukims and villages this year.

Yesterday's visit by the Sultan to observe the well-being and welfare of the residents in the three mukims was a happy occasion for the people from the various communities in the district as they were able to get up close with His Majesty.

During the visit, the caring monarch consented to witness the conversion ceremony of a 20-year-old Iban youth, Simon Anak Saoh @ Mohd Asyraf Abdullah Saoh that took place at the residence of Acting Penghulu of Mukim Melilas.

The residents of Mukim Melilas who are creative and industrious in handicraft-making took the golden opportunity to show His Majesty their handicraft products. The local residents are trying to preserve their handicraft skills before they disappear in the process of modernisation and development.

Apart from the residential areas, His Majesty also visited the public facilities including health clinics, schools, prayer halls, police control posts and others in the three Mukims.

This working visit of His Majesty reflects the monarch's concern towards the well-being of the people as well as to inspect the progress and development of the mukims in the Belait District. - Borneo Bulletin (24th Jan 2006)
